There’s a moment Kureinji artist Maddy Barbary Copley remembers clearly, not in a gallery, but in a primary school art room, painting a koala covered in dot work.
I think it was grade five,” Maddy recalls. “The teacher entered it in the show and I won first place. That was really cool.”

Garden

Ebony’s garden design, ‘Sunset Over Salt Lake’, was inspired by the constant view she has of the salt lake opposite her home in Mildura, where water is scarce, and beauty is often quiet and overlooked. The design, perfectly capturing the beautiful soft light across the barren surface of the lake at sunset, invites visitors to slow down and admire the beauty and resilience of the climate responsive landscape as spaces of beauty.

Benjamin Sharpe still pinches himself when he thinks about his professional journey over the last few years. After more than a decade working in the sales and business development sectors, three years ago, the Mildura man was approached by Aerobotics and offered the opportunity to run the business in Australia.

House

A long tree-lined driveway leads to a home that sits quietly on its block, generous in scale but considered in the way it meets its surroundings. The home was designed not only for everyday living, but for gathering – family dinners, weekends by the pool, friends staying over, future grandchildren – and the kind of relaxed entertaining that comes naturally when your backyard rolls down toward the river.

Local Story

Fifty-one years ago, John began hand crafting his GA Sky Fly aircraft from scratch, shaping every piece of timber into a rib, spar, and joint with his own hands. Guided only by a set of plans, spruce timber, and determination, the project grew slowly, piece by meticulous piece. Now, decades on, inside a hangar at Mildura Airport, John steps back with quiet pride to reveal the completed aircraft.

As the bell sounds and his arm is raised aloft in victory, David Dunning takes a deep breath knowing he is living out a childhood dream.
The 32-year-old from Mildura revels in performance art, however his stage is a canvas ring with a 360-degree view of his audience.
By day, David works as a corrections officer, at night he transforms into Scotty Roach, a professional wrestler who has been grappling for some of Australia’s biggest promotions over the past six years.

Food

More than three decades on, Stefano’s Restaurant remains central to his life. On any given night, Stefano can still be found moving between tables, pouring wine, telling stories and greeting diners with the warmth and generosity that have become synonymous with the experience itself. Stefano shares 3 of his favourite recipes with Mildura Living readers on page 116.

As the cooler months settle across our region, there’s something special about winter in Mildura.
The pace softens just enough for long lunches, good conversation, community gatherings and discovering the stories that make this place such a remarkable part of the country.
